History of Congregation Ahavas Achim
1889 - Congregation Ahavas Achim incorporated in Middlesex County, New Jersey. Congregation meet in private homes or rented stores in New Brunswick.
1900 - Congregation purchases building from Salvation Army. |
1909-1919 - Congregation served by Rabbi Israel Marcus. |
1911 - Building remodeled. |
1919-1931 - Congregation led by Rabbi Samuel Baskin. |
1930 - Building enlarged and modernized. |
1931-1933 - Congregation served by Rabbi Abraham Shapiro. |
1938-1984 - Congregation served by Rabbi Pesach Raymon. |
1949 - Social hall added adjacent to building. |
1969 - New sanctuary rededicated. |
1980 - Sanctuary destroyed by fire on Yom Kippur. |
1986-2005 - Congregation led by Rabbi Ronald Schwarzberg. |
1987 - Congregation moves to Highland Park. |
1989 - New building in Highland Park dedicated |
2000 - Rabbi Steven Miodownik named Assistant Rabbi and Program Director. |
2006-Present - Congregation led by Rabbi Steven Miodownik |
2010 - Building expansion dedicated. |
2024 - Rabbi Noah Whittenburg appointed Assistant Rabbi
